Speech on the Ascension of the Lord 17-5-2018

(4 May 2018 according to the paternal calendar)

God is gone up amidst shouting,

the LORD amidst the sound of the horn.

(Psalm 47:6)

Dear and respected fathers

and dear brothers in Christ

The ascented Lord granted to us again this year the joy,

amid persecutions, amid tribulations, amid troubles,

amid court proceedings,

to celebrate again His Holy Ascension.

We saw the Despot Christ,

to be born as a baby by the Holy Virgin, the Theotokos.

We saw Him teaching the world about his Salvation.

We saw him being imprisoned by the scribes and the Pharisees.

We finally saw him ascend to the Cross.

We saw him ascend to Golgotha,

alone with the cross on His shoulder,

to show us that those who want to straggle,

they all have to leave everything aside,

and they will have, as their only companion and helper, the Despot Christ.

Like Him, when He ascended to Golgotha,

the only one who helped Him, was Simon the Cyrene.

So we, fathers and brothers, in order to achieve our Salvation,

first we as monks, who have promised to the Despot Christ,

to renounce everything, even our soul, for our Salvation.

And he, that finds his life in this world, shall lose the eternal life,

but he that loses his life in this world, because of Christ and because of the Gospel,

shall find the eternal life. (Mathew 10:29)

CHRIST WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US

We have finally seen him, our Ascended Lord,

to ascend to the heavens today,

and promise to the holy apostles,

that, Lo, I am with you all the days,

until the end of time. (Mathew 28:20)

And really, it will be so, and the Despot Christ

will be with them, who want to struggle,

until the end of time.

Many times, He lets us to suffer a little,
